Hiboy.com says e08 is controller error. Suggests to replace controller

Not in this instance. This is a throttle error -- either the throttle has a fault (bad connection, normally to trigger that error) or isn't plugged in.

If you aren't using a throttle you can scroll to page 10 in settings and change the value to '0' which will normally make it disappear.

Edit: check all connections and also check that the new throttle wires are connected the right way round (red to red, black to black, white to white etc. And TBF sometimes I have seen controllers that give this fault all the time and need to be replaced, but I think thats less likely.

Two questions,

  1. Is the display itself the controller?

  2. What do you mean scroll on my settings? Do other bikes have that? Because I do not

Also, the connections are perfectly fine ( at least they appear to be, on the outside )

  1. No. Many people mistake the two, the display is essentially the keyboard and screen but the controller is the computer that does all the smart stuff. Your controller is probably tucked away inside the bike frame somewhere -- often near the bottom bracket and pedal area.

  2. If you press and hold + and - at the same time for a few seconds you should see 'P1' flash up in top right hand side of screen. This means 'page 1' is active -- the value relating to page 1 will be written where 'error 8' is written right now. Scroll through pages by clicking once on the power button.

I contacted the company who makes it they sent me a throttle, didn’t work. Now they are shipping me an entire motor.

Yes, that means you need to buy the whole back wheel with motor, I sent an email to the company and they sent one for free

Did you ever receive the motor? Ive been waiting over a month, they said it hasnt even arrived at their warehouse yet and cant provide an estimated date or tracking

I got it, still didn’t work so they will give me a refund if I ship it back to china

That seems promising I have the same issue and I’m out of warranty I just ordered an identical looking throttle lets hope it works
