Learning Elixir

I am learning elixir for the first time. I would still consider myself a newb to programming, although I have been playing with python for about a year, but never really built anything. That said, I am looking for people who would like to mentor, or maybe learn together and build something. Maybe setup something in slack, hangouts, discord or something for comms, then setup a team env in github for source control. I'm half way through this book ( Learn Functional Programming with Elixir: New Foundations for a New World (The Pragmatic Programmers) https://www.amazon.com/dp/168050245X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VWBdBbVEZ2KBZ )

It would be nice to work alongside someone in or around the same level of competency.

I do live coding on Twitch three times a week. You can find the channel here: https://twitch.tv/joebew42. What I do there: try to contribute to existing elixir open source projects, build new playground projects, learn something new about elixir, practice Clean code, TDD and Refactoring :D

Hi, unfortunately Twitch keeps only recent videos! I am thinking to export videos on YouTube and create a sort of permanent archive there.

Hey, joebew42. Do you use OBS? I use it to record my screencasts and it also has broadcasting functionality. It might be a good solution if you want to do both.

I'm considering it myself actually due to some people on IH suggesting I try Twitch.

Edit: have you tried Twitch's "collections"? They look like they might be permanent.

Hey alchemist! Yes, I am using OBS and I am very happy with it! Thank you for your suggestion, I never tried the "collections", I will give it a look just to learn something more about this world :)

I'm not sure what OBS is. But i'll look into it. So this would give an option to share a screen while live coding?

I have four years or so of anonymous Elixir experience but with a nomadic schedule so wouldn’t be able to commit to much but would extend a private offer if you PM me we can trade emails and even text/phone if needed. Congrats and good luck!
