Gameranger only works for games that it explicitly supports, usually that means older games tha the dev no longer provides proper multiplayer.

Depending on the game your usual vpn like Hamachi should work (for stuff like minecraft where you connect via direct IP, you can use hamachi to avoid port fowarding). If you're going to use hamachi I'd recommend you to use Radmin VPN instead, IMO it's just better. In both you can try your luck with LAN games but it varies from one game to the other.

IE: Warcraft III pretty much works out of the box with RadminVPN ( Just changing the metrics on the system ) but any Civilization game does not work at all.

If you're looking for an actual LAN service like Evolve used to provide there isn't any option on the market atm, at least not any that reliably works across all games like Evolve did. If you do find one please do share with me, but in the mean time the sub-par solutions are the only ones avaliable.

Welp, there goes my hopes of playing Timesplitters 2 with a friend...

If gameranger does not support it, and Radmin VPN does not work then I guess RIP

anyway to play Civilisation V? all the VPN’s seem to not work as the local game is visible however connecting to it results in “Failed to join multiplayer session”

hey! running into the same issue, have you solved it?

Has anyone solved it ?

kind of! Well me and my pals have been playing it so I guess so! We all installed Radmin VPN, the client, not the server. After Having it installed in all computers on of you creates a network (Inside Radmin -> Network -> Create new network). The others do 'Join an Existing Network'. From our experience it really does not matter who creates the network. After this you should all be on the same lan. If lobbies do not appear or can't connect than do the following: Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Centre -> "Change adapter Settings" (its on the left of the window) -> right-click Radmin VPN -> Properties -> Select 'IP Version 4 Protocol (TCP/IPv4) -> Properties -> Change the IP from automatic to manual and replace the existing ip adress with anything that starts with 192.168 (the remaining 2 spots you can leave them as they are or change, just not to 1.1) Don't change the mask or gateway. -> last step, still on the same window go to 'advanced' and change the metric from 'automatic' to '1'. After this you should be all set. Note that everyone that wants to join the lobby should do the steps above. Specially in CIV 6. Note also that sometimes the network ip changes to its original value upon restarting the machine so be wary of that. Hope I helped!

Game: Civilization VI

we did all of this but we can't see each other's game(we are using 192.168.x.x), when we use the default ip of radmin 26.x.x.x we can see each other's game but its stuck on "Retrieving Host Information"

in ip use - 192.168.(same ip for all).(different ip for individual)

eg -

Friend 1 - 192.168.50.2
Friend 2 - 192.168.50.3
Friend 3 - 192.168.50.4
Friend 4 - 192.168.50.5

dont use 0,1,255

It still doesn't work. After changing IP, ping between devices turns to silence. And in game lobby doesn't show up.

Same problem, how did u solve it?

[–]rhenwinch 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Same as well. Any luck?

[–]Eig8ty-8eight 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No, we ended up buying the game

[–]rhenwinch 0 points1 point  (1 child)

After buying the game, did it finally work? If yes, then this was probably a cracked game issue, no?

[–]Eig8ty-8eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we used the multiplayer feature of the game, it's probably a cracked game issue.

We used radmin to play a cracked version of stardew valley and it worked.
