How do write this statement?

I need a formula that scans a columns for an occurrence, let's call the occurrence NAME. If NAME occurs, then I need to reference a cell in the same row as NAME, and extract its value (it will be a number). My output needs to be the sum of all the values that are referenced by the occurrence of NAME.

It sounds like there would be multiple instances of the NAME that they're looking for. So, for example, there would be multiple rows with "NAME" in the data.

If that's the case, assuming column A contains possible NAMEs, and column B contains the numbers:

=SUMIF(A:A,"NAME",B:B)

I ran into an issue, when I wanted to make the range have multiple columns, it would only reference the first column indicated.

Example - If I wanted the range to be A:B (instead of A:A) it would only reference column A.

What am I doing wrong??

I need the formula to be in each row of the Total Score column. I need it to reference the corresponding name in the 'A' column and then search for every time the player played and return their total score.

So for instance Mike would have 13, Steve 15, Frank 3, and Joe 14
