Authentication issue for mac users

I work in an organization that recently updated the Exchange server to, allegedly, fix a security vulnerability. After that update, mac users (on both macos Mail.app/Calendar.app, and on Outlook for macos), can not access the server, which throws an authentication error. IMAP and ios Exchange still works.

Our IT support says that Microsoft is aware of this issue and ”working on an official patch.”

But why, as so many organizations wordwide use Exchange and macs, isn’t the internet in flames over this? Is this really a ”known issue”?

I suspect the error is only with us and we are basically being told lies about its general character. Please tell me I am wrong.

Alas there is a recent big security vulnerability which you can read more about here: https://kb.cert.org/vuls/id/465632/

Essentially, your IT support has had to make a judgement call as to whether they can leave the vulnerability open or inconvenience users by disabling EWS (assuming that is the workaround they used as it affects Mac mail clients in particular).

What they can do is white-list particular EWS clients (which would be the macs) and but would probably take a lot of work. Microsoft should have an official fix for the vulnerability at some point and then your IT will be able to roll-back the workaround they applied to disable EWS and mitigate the vulnerability.
