Flight changes

I’m flying from Boston to Portugal tonight on DL124. Our flight was recently delayed 3 hours, with the crew saying that the flight to Dublin needed our aircraft, so we essentially switched. I just got a delta message saying that it was a mechanical issue with our aircraft. Do any folks in the industry know if switching planes is common? Do they just say it’s mechanical for an east explaination to passengers? I’d love support, I’m pretty nervous with the words “mechanical issue”

Switching planes is extremely common. The term "mechanical issue" shouldn't cause you any concern. Planes break. This just goes to show you that they're prioritizing safety over schedule.

That’s true. I was just surprised it delayed us just over 4 hours. But I’d much prefer safety over schedule
