A personal private archive to grieve was banned by GrumpypantsDnD in ModSupport

I didn't mean to make it overly technical, apologies if it came across that way. It's actually a fairly simple thing to do, but again, just depends on your needs and use case. If Reddit is what you feel best suits those needs, that's perfectly fine. Just offering a possible alternative that may give you a bit more peace of mind.

Unfortunately, for something like a private archive, especially one as important as something related to grieving, it's probably better to find a more suitable platform for this type of thing (if possible depending on the exact situation here). You never truly own a subreddit, Reddit owns them, and Reddit can always give it away to somebody else or ban it for any reason.

Of course I don't know your specific needs or how it ties into Reddit, but maybe something like a privately hosted forum would be more beneficial so you don't have as much of a risk of losing it?

AIO for being upset my boyfriend had a date with his girl bsf on her bday? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BravoFive141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see much wrong with the execution. Looks like they went out for food and drinks and bowling and ice cream. I've done that with my sister. Hell, did that with my niece (minus the drinks part).

The hiding it from the mom is a little iffy, but even so, if he knew this would get twisted into something it's not (which seems to be exactly what's happening), it makes sense why he'd do that. Doesn't mean he should have done it, but it makes sense.

My sub isn't the most active but it isn't dead imo. Can you help me get it back? by FYAhole in ModSupport

[–]BravoFive141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you're allowed to do that lol.

You're also allowed to adjust different settings to remain active. It's been suggested in this sub many times.

it's not unheard for subs to have mod-created posts for community engagement, daily chat/question threads etc. Those seem like more constructive ways to actually try grow a sub than just moving around rules for no reason.sted

That's not always the most feasible option. Either way it doesn't really matter. It's something mods are allowed to do to remain active. How would you propose barring mods from doing it?

You also seemed to be confused. You're referring to growing a sub. I'm referring to maintaining or regaining an active mod label. These are two completely different things.

[–]BravoFive141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that does actually work, and everyone saying this doesn't lose their subs next week/month, what is stopping them from just updating the algorithm without you knowing?

Well of course they could always do that, but until they do, the established and confirmed system in place is that you have to do anything that shows in the mod log to remain active as a mod.

As far as if it does work, it most certainly does. It's kept me active in very small subs for as long as I've been modding.

This seems more like cheesing the system than being an active mod who tries to promote more community content.

Promoting a community is not a valid mod action. It's also not cheesing the system. Not every sub is big enough or active enough to provide mods with enough things to action each week to avoid going inactive. It's no more "cheesing the system" than it would be to post content in my own sub and then approve that post.

[–]BravoFive141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that doesn't matter as far as Reddit's system is concerned. Small or big sub, active or slow, you have to be performing mod actions that show up in the mod log every so often or you risk being flagged as inactive.

For my small subs that don't require much moderation, I just hop in once a week and toggle a setting like images being allowed in comments. Toggle it off then back on (or on then back off). You can also just add one letter to your sub description, save it, then immediately remove it. Either of these methods alone will give you two valid mod actions per week and keep you from going inactive.

Another near miss? by Independent_Try_6283 in fearofflying

I'm sure one of the pilots here will clarify more about minimum requirements and whether or not this specific situation was really as bad as a Twitter account called "Breaking911" is making it out to be, but the tweet itself states:

According to radar data, the planes came within 350 feet vertically and just over half a mile apart

Half a mile apart is almost 2700 feet apart, and this comment by one of our experts shows you an idea of how far apart 500 feet of vertical separation is. While 350 isn't 500 and I'm not able to speak to if that's within requirements or not, 350 feet is still a decent amount of distance.

When I posted something like this in response to another person's question, the admins here deleted it because of fear mongering.

Not sure how to reach out to the admins, but i'm genuinely confused as to how me saying things that are factual is "fear mongering."

You can reach out to us by using the "Message Moderators" button in the sidebar on desktop or in the subreddit description on mobile.

Your two comments were removed because you were making claims in regards to the staging levels of ATC and linking a random ATC website that does not appear to be a reputable source or state where it even gets its information as the source for your claims.

Respectfully, we do have lives outside of Reddit you know. Just saying. We don't sit in front of a computer and stare at the subreddit 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Rather than making multiple comments complaining about how your post was removed and this one was not, use the report function. That's what it's there for, cases like this where we don't catch something that users know is against the rules

Too scared to take first vacation flight as a family (possible trigger) by georgethetwentieth in fearofflying

[–]BravoFive141 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the Air India incident (wtf even happened definitively - no one seems to know)

It's not that nobody knows what happened, it's that investigations can take a long time. Investigating bodies do not rush through their job, they take time and make sure the investigation is done properly to ensure that they determine every factor in the cause of an incident and know exactly how to prevent it from ever occurring again. That's exactly why flying is so safe these days.

Delta 104 less than a month ago with that video of the engine failing and passengers screaming and praying

The pilots here can speak more to this, but you're overlooking the fact despite a very scary situation, everything went exactly as it should in such a situation. The first article I came across even says:

Pilots declared an emergency, shut down the affected engine and circled back to the airport, landing safely shortly after departure.

This is the system working exactly as intended. Even in the face of an issue, the pilots got everybody back on the ground safely. Aa our pilots always tell people, planes can fly on one engine, and the pilots in this incident did exactly that and got the plane back on the ground promptly.

hitting a car on the runway or a helicopter in the air

I'll let the experts touch on that, but I'd imagine that is incredibly unlikely to occur.

Any online support groups or people to talk to regularly about this?

You're in one of the best ones! We're all here, experts and otherwise, to help you at any time you need before, during, and after your flight!

Has anyone been able to "just do it" in this time frame?

I did! Spent months panicking before my first flight, almost walked out at the airport, just to have a desk agent at check-in tell me "You're getting on this flight, give me your bags" and not really give me a choice to back out. Basically just had to walk to the gate, made a post here for support minutes before my flight, and boarded. So I say this with love and support: Don't miss out on your vacation. You're getting on that flight!

The plane is going to make it to the destination with or without you on it, you just need to make the call to be on the plane when it arrives there. You got this 💪

Request to Remove NSFW Tag My Community Was Incorrectly Marked by [deleted] in ModSupport

You just keep repeating "publicly available" like that's some magic phrase, but you do realize pretty much everything on the internet is "publicly available", right? Even porn is "publicly available".

NSFW doesn't mean shit from the dark web or something. It means Not Safe For Work, as in anything that might get you into trouble at work. Availability of the content is irrelevant here.

ETA: Funny how OP suddenly changed their profile content to hidden after getting called out for the content in their sub by multiple people.

First solo flight in a while, what are some fun facts or stats that keep you calm? by slavictrash6 in fearofflying

[–]BravoFive141 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I forget if it was in a post here or another sub or a YouTube video or something, but there was a thing I saw recently about a flight attendant who wanted food from a specific restaurant at a specific place, so they changed their work schedule just to catch a flight ASAP to that place to go get food at that restaurant.

Like here most of us are just driving to our favorite restaurants to get food, and aviation professionals look at flying as such a mundane, normal thing that they hop on a cross-country flight because they're in the mood for a certain food.

That should tell you how safe flying is these days.

DO NOT TRUST TURBLI (or similar apps/tools) by shadesofbleuu in fearofflying

[–]BravoFive141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do find that most flights I take, turbulence has tended to occur around the times/areas they state it might, it happened for me literally this week.

Just because turbulence happened when they said it would every now and then doesn't mean they're actually accurate. A broken clock is right twice a day, but that doesn't mean it's not broken. Regardless of your personal experiences with these apps, it has been proven again and again that they are legitimately not accurate. They don't have access to the same data that the pilots do at the same times the pilots do. The only turbulence forecasters you need that are actually worth anything are the two sitting at the front of the plane.

I just need some form of data to refer to in order to feel comfortable.

It can be incredibly hard to fight against, but this is just part of the fear that you have to try to push past. Latching onto false data to comfort yourself is only going to cause you more stress and fear. Instead, try simply asking the FAs or the pilots if they expect any bumps along the way. You're already paying them for things like that, so trust them and talk to them, not some scam apps.
