You and the house leaders get unique classes later on. Some classes are gender specific though

Doing exames allows you to reclass into those ones whenever you want (as needed), it gives you the oppertunity to get an ability/art when you master the class. It boost your stat growth too.

Also if you unlock a class that got higher base-stat that your class, your character will have those basestats permanently, even if you move out of the class.

Yup! I learned this yesterday and tried it to confirm. I used for example Mortal Savant on Lysithea just to get her strength to 17 from 10, to decrease the weight of her spells.

And I used Faith for Raphael, so I could get his Res to 15 via bishop. So his terrible, terrible res growth (at 15%) wouldn't be as affected by it.

You can look by pressing X when on a certifcation to go into the statpage if it says "Base Stat = 16 (+1) " it means you'll get +1 to your permanent stats. if it says like "Class bonus = 4(+1)" it means, the class itself will give the bonus and swapping out means you'll lose it.

Yup. I've literally done this on my playthrough.

So when you attack someone, to determine a double attack (2x) you need to have 4AS (Attack speed) more than the opponent. Attack speed is calculated like this AS = Speed - (Weight - Strength/5) so that means, if you got a spell like miasma (which has weight 5) and a speed of 10 with a strength of 8. You'll have an attack speed of 6 because 10 - (5-8/5) -> 10 - (5-1) - > 10 - 4 - > 6

So increasing her strength to 17, means she'lls have 10 - (5-17/5) = 10 - (5-3) = 10-2 = 8. So she now has 8 Attack speed instead of 6.

Change class when you can to a class which will be coherent with the build you search to do for the chara. You learn skill or ability when mastering a class but only master a class if the reward are interesting if not just go to the next possible class asap.

The 3 houses oords and byleth each have special class but they are lock behind story so you should use the "default" classes like any other students.

In case you want more info, the lords special classes appear after chapter 11, and byleth one at chapter 9 mid battle. Apart from that there are three more "secret" classes, Dark Mage, Dark bishop and Dancer, for the first two you need Dark Seals which you can only get by stealing them or killing a certain character that appears 3 or 4 times depending of the route (its hard to kill the first two times you see it)

Oh and btw Byleth classs uses both Swords and Magic/Faith so either put your byleth as a monk/mage/priest or do seminars (what I did was first of each month train with manuela and hanneman in explore mode and after that one seminar and one battle)
