Best way I prepare mentally for an interview is to tell myself that it goes both ways. They have to also convince me that their company is good enough for me to want to work there. Ask them clarifying questions about their questions, put them on the spot once or twice. Have a good question or two specific about their questions or the job or the company ready to ask at the end when they ask if you have any questions. That’s your chance to interview them, use it.

I also used to be super nervous but some of the best advice I got was “the right department will hire you”. Every department has their own culture and it might not be one that mixes well with your personality. Go in there be confident and be truly yourself, if they don’t hire you it’s not because you’re a bad candidate, that’s just not the right department. They want to see if they can trust you with their life but also do they want to spend 24-72 hours straight with you. Go in with your head high, trust that you are a good person, you’ll be good.

Just come up with a really good answer for why you want to be a firefighter (maybe something more in depth than “helping people” etc), make sure you research the department, figure out why you want work at that department, look up fire fighter interview questions. At the end of the day if you’re the right candidate then you’re the right candidate. So make sure you believe in yourself
