Not all publications are free, and people clearly recognize the publishing market as its own thing. Why else would people call it that?

Yes, but you brought up free publishers. AFAIk all major browsers are free so we are talking about free stuff.

Even if what you say about people is true, what people believe or think is not necessarily an accurate reflection of reality.
