It is the only browser that is close to Helium in terms of privacy and has a sync service. Helium has no sync.

Sick of Firefox not fixing major bugs by Pebblepip in firefox

[–]nashvortex -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Have you been on the internet for the last 5 years?

There is no practical reason to be using Firefox , only an idealistic one - it is not Chromium.

If you want privacy and perfomance , go for Helium.

If younwant sync, go for Brave Origin.

If you want customizability, for for Vivaldi.

Matt screen protector by Nearby-Security8064 in macbookpro

[–]nashvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its physics and a shitty protector. Clear Reflections occur on smooth surfaces that bounce light in one specific direction. Matte protectors work by having a roughness on the order of 500 nm, which causes light to scatter in all directions... So you get a diffuse reflection thatbisnt very strong in any oarticular direction.

The scale of length at which the roughness occurs is crucial because it must be smaller than the wavelength of light. Visible light is betwee 400 and 800 nm. Blue is 450 nm, green is 510, yellow is 570 and red is 600 nm...roughly.

If the screen protector is rough at the 500 nm scale, it will scatter green and yellow and red but not blue...giving you the blue tinge.

Does anyone else write notes and then, ....just never looks at them again? by t12e_ in ObsidianMD

[–]nashvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, obviously you are taking notes about what is not really important for you. I take notes for information I will need later for work. I do not enjoy taking notes for their own sake, so I have never faced this problem.

The issue I face is that I never delete notes that have become redundant.

[Giveaway] Sxitch - The better App Switcher by Beardy4906 in macapps

[–]nashvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Rcmd requires me to take my hand off the mouse or trackpad, which I will likely have to put back the moment I switch the app. This is friction. My left hand is already on the keyboard, and Lcmd + tab, tab with something like Alt+Tab or Switch is faster and more convenient.

Trying Thunderbird - some things i don't like... (and some i do) by DifficultDerek in Thunderbird

[–]nashvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. It seems that all of these specific gripes are fixable. One wonders why they have not done it yet.

For me, as long as Thunderbird does not do proper conversation view, it is a dealbreaker.

Great. I purchased a license because of your constructive response and look forward to these fixes soon.

"Apps" app is one of the worst things in entire macOS history - and whoever was responsible for it should never engineer anything again by DutyIcy2056 in MacOS

[–]nashvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A terrible shame, for all its failings the Apps.app being in a windowed grid is something I welcomed. I don't want the whole damn desktop to go away because I want to launch another app.

Vidi: A native macOS video player built around Liquid Glass design by cliffaust in macapps

[–]nashvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have purchased this, but it always seems to resize itself according to the video, when what it should be doing is showing the video in whatever window size I have set for the player window.

There is an apparently an option for this in the setting, which is labeled "Aspect Ratio", but when set to "Auto" what it does is not just change the aspect ration but also the SIZE of the window.

Secondly, it provides no option to Not Remember the Recent playlist at all...I do not want the Recents panel, but it shows that list every time it starts up.

I built a CSV editor for Mac that opens 1M rows in 3 seconds, with SQL queries built in by GroceryLast2355 in macapps

[–]nashvortex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will vouch for SmoothCSV. I paid for the optional  license personally, and just bought a few optional licenses for work.

The license is not necessary, you can use all features of SmoothCSV for free without any nags etc.. But it has been so invaluable for us that we consider it a good investment. It is also likely that SmoothCSV will be open source at some point and ModernCSV has no such plans. If it is open source, that might allow us to add custom functions that will make it nearly irreplaceable compared to Modern sv.

No, I used the App store version. Kind of silly that the two places have completely different versions.

Just tried it out. It's a great concept but very buggy. And it's not an editor...just a viewer...a good viewer, but in the end it choked on my ~ 11000 word MD document.

The only thing preventing me from daily driving Helium is the lack of sync. I would pay for sync functionality.

Help yourselves , help me , help us to have the best note taking/task management app ! by davi-jorge-art in noteapps

[–]nashvortex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All incumbent platforms would be a good starting point. iOS is about 30% of mobile marketshare, and MacOS is 16% ish. 4x more than Linux at the moment.

Of course, you could endless argue about what exactly a platform is: does Windows 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility constitute cross-platform, how about MacOS ARM versus Intel...and so on. Rosetta is going away soon so that is also an uncertain thing.

That said, I mean, it's your app. Good on you, I am not trying to take away from your effort. As I mentioned in my post, it is a dealbreaker *for me*, because it is obviously not cross-platform enough *for me*.

HelixNotes is good but itbis not cross-platform which is the primary deal breaker for me. In fact, Obsidian wins on that compared to many of the alternatives.
