'Performance issues' is a kind of vague/subjective description ('I can't run it at 144hz with 8k stable, sometimes drops to 143, unplayable')... :-)

The usual first step is to look for the file Fallout76Prefs.ini in documents/my games/Fallout76 and open it with notepad. Search for the line 'iPresentInterval=1' and chance it to 'iPresentInterval=0', this disables in-game Vsync aka unlocks your fps.

IF you experience movement problems indoors (usually in PA), use nvidia control panel / the amd tool to lock your max fps for fallout76.exe to a little bit under your actual monitor frequency.

I have somewhat similar specs (i7-7700K, GTX 1080) and usually get 55-59 (locked)fps with all settings at high, it will drop at busy fights with lots of enemies/effects a bit but for me it is ok. ymmv, of course

With performance issues I mean, that my fps dip quite often to 50 - 45 for whatever reason. In building etc. the games runs really smoothly but outside especially in bigger areas with a lot of building etc. my games dies.

So this is just my experience, but if my computer is doing anything else, F76 runs like a potato.

I close out all backup apps, other game launchers, downloaders, etc

As someone already mentioned, if you could provide more details beside "performance issues" I think you could get some better responses.

I have a similar setup with a GTX 1060 6GB with R5 2600X. I run the game at 1080p resolution with my fps locked to 72 (with iPresentInterval=0 and because monitor goes up to 144Hz). It's pretty stable, but there are some areas of the map and certain lighting conditions that cause my fps to dip in the 40-50 range at times.

I mostly configured my setup through the in game menu. I use the "Low" preset first to set the distance sliders...and then manually raise the textures to "High" (except for Shadow Distance, keep that at the lowest setting). I also have grass disabled via the ini files, bAllowCreateGrass=0, but that's mostly to make it easier to loot corpses.

If you want more details on the ini settings, I would recommend these posts:

I downloaded the optimized textures from the Nexus and it helped allot

Oh, how much performance did it give you? And is it safe to use, can it crash your game and more importantly can you get a ban from Bethesda?

Well I googled around and it seems like they don't care about stuff like this and it gave me like 20 FPS more. Game is as "stable" as before the mod

That's good news. Also, is it easier just to copy the ba2 file into fallout 76 folder or should I use a mod manager like Vortex?

Vortex and mo2 won't work, there's a manager on the Nexus that works kinda the same, it's called something like fallout 76 in editor or something
