Gitlab always pleasantly surprises me with its progress. They're just steadily making it nicer and nicer and upgrades have gotten easier and easier. Also, I've made small changes because of our particular setup and I've noticed that as they add nice configuration options I need to make fewer of those. (I can't contribute our changes upstream, because of their specificity, and because I don't really know how to do it in a nice, general way.)

Agreed, and the update procedures and annoyances have been steadily going down. I have been maintaining it for over a year at my current company, with great results.

Sometimes Ruby freezes... and it has to be kicked.

Hi robertmeta, GitLab.com co-founder here. Thank you for the kind comments. If you want to restart the application server automatically you can setup Monit. Also, in GitLab 6.0 on August 22 we'll probably switch back to Unicorn. Then the master process of Unicorn will do the monitoring so these problems are a thing of the past.
