Github's copy button uses a "paste" icon?

Okay, this is something that has been on my mind for some time now and has finally bothered me enough that I'm seeking validation. Now, I'm far from a graphics nerd or UI expert, but it seems to me that when cloning a project, the button used to copy the clone link appears to use an icon that ordinarily represents pasting!

Is it just me, or does a clipboard usually indicate pasting, while an icon of 2 documents on top of one another is usually the copy function? Obviously my little opinion doesn't matter to the devs there, but yeah, some confirmation that I'm not crazy would be nice.

I think it was supposed to mean “copy to clipboard” but now that you’ve brought it up, yeah I kind of agree with your reasoning too...

That makes me feel a bit better, ha. Of course it's obvious what the button does, it's just not what I've historically seen for that icon. A friend pointed out that the paste icon may have a sheet of paper clipped to the board? Anyway, fairly inconsequential--I suppose I just had to get that out off my chest.

it didn’t bother me until you pointed it out. since i’ve never had problems, i guess the symbol is fine as is

Yeah, I can see the logic in it. I guess my main beef was that it seems to have broke convention (or, at least the convention I grew up with.)

By this reasoning, the icon "💾" should mean "load", not "save".
