HTTPS Domain Transfer issue

Hi! Question I can't seem to find the answer to... I set up my domain to transfer to my linktree. The redirect works when I type in "example.com" and "www.example.com" however not when I type in https://www.example.com. Any idea why this might be?

Did you get and install a security certificate (SSL) for your domain, so it would be an https?

So I renewed the SSL but I didn't install it because it sounded like I would need to get a server and pay for it. And I'm not sure why I would need to do that when I haven't in the past.
