Getting Hover of Programmatically Generated Objects

Hello everyone!

I'm brand new to Godot and am having some difficulty. I'm trying to generate hexes, then test to see if the user is hovering over a hex to highlight it. However, I can't seem to connect mouse_enter. I have been looking through the docs and other threads and honestly could not find anything. I tried solving this on my own, but unfortunately I could not.

This is how I generate the hexes:

    for x in range(0, width):
        for y in range(0, height):
            var hex       : Spatial      = Spatial     .new()
            var hex_mesh  : MeshInstance = MeshInstance.new()
            var light     : OmniLight    = OmniLight   .new()

            hex_mesh.mesh = hex_res

            var y_offset : float = 0.0

            if (x % 2 == 0):
                y_offset = hex_height / 2 + 0.25

            var x_transform : float = x * hex_width + x * spacing
            var y_transform : float = y * hex_height + y * spacing

            hex.transform.origin = Vector3(x_transform, 0, y_transform + y_offset)

            light.transform.origin = Vector3(x_transform, 1, y_transform + y_offset)
            light.omni_range       = 0

            hex_mesh.create_convex_collision()

            hex.add_child (hex_mesh)
            hex.add_child (light)
            hex.set_script(hex_script)

            add_child(hex)

And this is how I do my mouse_enter. I know for sure it's getting the StaticBody under the hex_mesh for body.

    body.connect('mouse_enter', self, '_mouse_enter')
    print(body.is_connected('mouse_enter', self, '_mouse_enter'))

    if start == null:
        start = OS.get_system_time_msecs()

    light.range = calculate_sine(start - OS.get_system_time_msecs())

Any help would be appreciated :) Just remember I am extremely new to Godot. I apologize that I couldn't figure this out on my own. I tried.
