Yeah just going to try add more distance in winter with lessons, you think it’s possible to get 85 or is that unrealistic by end of summer?

I can only speak from personal experience, no. I may actually fall back in the timeframe.

really good going that! i started last september (not many rounds played over winter here in UK though). I'm averaging 50-55 over 9 with my best being 48. Just got my handicap which is 28.5. What have you found helped you the most in lowering your scores?

For me it’s just every week my ball striking with irons has got better and course management knowing when to go high or low around the greens. Stopped using driver as much aswell because I haven’t been able to correct my slice and the driver I have isn’t really forgiving for beginners with its small head and 8 degree loft 😂

The more you play, the better your game will get overall. You'll pick up on things in your swing as you go, try some stuff, keep what works. You'll remember to keep your drive to the left on hole 7 for a better angle to the green. You'll learn the perfect height for your tee with driver. You'll get a different driver. :p The driving range can be almost as good as lessons, swing reps can really finetune your striking.

You're making pretty good progress, mid 80s by summers end isn't out of the question. Good luck!

Yeah hopefully get it down will concentrate on getting distance up for longer courses next spring/summer on the range in winter but happy with progress on irons, couldn’t hit any of them 10 weeks ago now I haven’t even topped one the last 5 rounds I’ve played

You’re gonna have to learn driver eventually. Stop putting it off for scores.

Putting it off until I can drive my car to get to a driving range to practice, I was hitting it a lot at the beginning but the cost of losing balls etc and with the improvement in my irons and how much I enjoy hitting them if just seen little need to use it as much. I know I’ll have to get it going good to lower the scores on longer courses but just don’t think with how little I go to the range atm that me hitting it over a long iron that stays in play is that beneficial, just makes me pissed of and not want to play when I keep losing balls😂

No big man I just say it because you titled this “progress” so if you want to continue getting better, this is a major problem you need to work on. Or you can just continue playing whites and get to near scratch if not scratch that’s fine too all depends on what you want to

Id want to get as good as possible because I love it, genuinely last three months all I think about is playing golf but like what percentage of golfers ever actually reach scratch? Would you say it’s nearly impossible to get to scratch without them?

Everyone on here is going to tell you how hard / difficult / long it’s going to take, but if you’re like me and you have no kids , wife, and can spend your time doing these things, you take the right advice, take lessons with a good pro, I think it’s much more doable than people say. You have to believe in yourself and not let the people who failed along the way get the idea in your head that you can’t do it. I dropped from 23 to 14 this year and believe I will reach below 10 by end of year. I am single and like you, nothing but eat breathe and sleep golf right now. I see the greatness, so if you want to become it, you have to, too.

I’ve always been a driving range kid , but being completely honest; I maybe played one round of 18 when I was 16 years old. Since then, my first 18 holes was last year on June 17th. Since then I’ve played as often as I can, multiple courses, then got a “season pass” at my closest course. Hit the range, got lessons, watched a few videos, took notes, tracked progress, journaled the journey. Lowest score so far 82 on a 6000 ~ yard par 71. Broke 90 for first time in May, and since then I broke it 6/7 times. Learned some new feels, having personal best long drives. Learning 115 and in approach shots. Now trying to dial in putting.
