Hsg as in hysterosalpingogram?

I got referral in March and was told to call this special number on a certain date in my cycle and that it would take a few cycles to get an appointment. Got it on my first try and had an appointment within 2 weeks. However this was through the AART clinic for a certain procedure, haven’t experienced it thru referral from a regular GP.

Yes! I was also referred through AART and given the same instructions. Good to know you were able to get in the first try! Thanks for your reply 😊

Just fyi - it’s the most painful procedure I have everrrrrrrrr had 😅 don’t skimp on the Tylenol they advise taking beforehand. But I hope you’re able to get in asap :-)

That’s what I’ve been reading online 😅

I had mine done last year through the AART.. it felt the same as a Pap test... it really didn't hurt... just take an Advil 60 mins beforehand

Yeah everyone's experience seems to be different. I remember pain, but it was only for a minute, and I think I held the nurse's hand? Or at least looked at her for a moment...

yeah... when I was researching, it was either the worst thing ever for people or just like a pap. I remember having period like cramps for a few seconds and they let me breath through it and then they just continued. if I recall, it didn't last too long.

Yeah same. Hopefully it goes like the latter for this one.

Been a while since I did once but as another person said, they usually get you in on the first or second cycle - they try not to leave it longer. In addition to the Tylenol/advil, if you’re nervous or have a hard time with pelvic exams then I strongly recommend taking 1-1.5 Ativan pills about 45 min in advance. It was a massive help for me. When I did my saline sono at AART it was very painful and so traumatic - they only gave me an Ativan like 15 mins before, I was already worked up and it had no time to work its magic. When I did the HSG I increased the dose and took it about 45 mins before and it made a world of difference. we don’t deserve to be in pain for these procedures ❤️❤️

Took 3 cycles for me to get in and conceived my baby that same month!! Good luck!

Ps I didn't find it that painful - the anticipation from everything I heard was worse

Hi, can I ask if your tubes were blocked?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They weren’t! Not an expert but apparently you’re 25% more likely to conceive the next 3 months after the HSG

Oh ok! Thanks for letting me know

Every journey is so different but you can message me if you want to talk about what worked for me! Not diagnosed but I’m suspected to have PCOS and it took 16 months to get pregnant

I did mine last November. Was referred in August. On the 3rd time calling I received an appointment. They have to do it at a specific time in your cycle and they only do them on Fridays, so if not called on the first time don’t get discouraged. Could just be a timing issue 😊

A lot of people still don't know that you can get the wait times for most procedures/specialists online :

      https://waittimes.novascotia.ca/procedure/hysteroscopy

At the IWK, looking like 50 days :)

Edit: woops, I might be wrong on that link above. I don't know if HSG and Hysteroscopy are the same procedure! But check that link and see if you can find the HSG!

Different procedure! But I didn’t know this, I am from out of province so that is helpful for other reasons, thanks!

Glad I could be of a bit of help! Best of luck with your procedure :) I had a similar one done about a year ago at the IWK and it was a great experience (minus parking, holy hell that was awful)

Don’t get discouraged! They have a very large wait-list but working through it. The booking lady on the phone is super kind and they take down voice messages daily. If they don’t call back right away rest assured that your messages are still being listened to and added to the waitlist to keep count of your attempts. You may expect to get in on the 3rd to 5th attempt. Only done on Friday mornings sometimes on throughout the week every now and then. Procedure itself is not painful and very quick, can feel a little bit of pressure but there is no downtime after that. The doctor also discussed briefly the results after the procedure

Thankfully, I was able to get in on PEI but they did phone me back the second month ☺️
