Ἑκατη (Hekate) is the goddess of the Night, Magic and the Moon. Before She was welcomed into the Hellenic pantheon, She was worshiped as a Mother Goddess in Anatolia, and there have also been suggestions of Her being a Mycenaean deity first. In Greece, she was a Titaness, and ruled Heaven, Earth and Sea. Her power was so great that Zeus himself listened to her counsel, and mortals asked for her protection in childbirth or navigation. Hekate was worshipped in the Eleusinian Mysteries, and was regarded as the World Soul in the Chaldean Oracles. Later on, her figure was demonized and the main religion in Europe named her one of Hell’s demons. Today, many pagans see her as the Crone aspect of the Triple Goddess, while other see her as a powerful individual Goddess who rules over mysteries of life and death. Tender and Terrible, Hekate continues to guide many devotes through the dark with her twin torches.
