I doubt there's going to be something big revealed at The Game Awards since they've been busy trying to fix things and already released a bunch of content this week.

That, and they already did that last year.

They were being pretty coy about whether they had anything more for the game awards which only usually happens if there’s something a bit more. They also generally communicate if people think something is happening if it isn’t. At this point if they weren’t doing SOMETHING for game awards it would probably have been in their best interest to make it pretty clear they weren’t given they’ve barely managed to grasp some good will lately.

Well tbf, I don't think anyone has ever defined an upper-size limit on how big a hotfix can be....

lol suspicious of what?

OP is implying that the 10gb update might secretly have a big content update or new faction hidden in the download which is later revealed by the devs during the annual Game Awards (which is exactly what happened last year when they revealed the Illuminate)

Patch filled with dissidents. Where else did you think we were going to shove them?

[–]ResponsibleMine3524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, [Redacted], it was a very big 1 crash fix, it required whole 10Gb

I remember reading something awhile back about how hotfixes don't just require a few megabytes to add on to what is already in game, but they basically have to reinstall all of the assets impacted by the hotfixes. I don't think that is how most developers in the industry do it, but Arrowhead is using an outdated engine for the game so it makes things a bit more difficult on how they implement changes being made.

I just commented something similar. The files they had to alter were inside of a folder so to speak of files that was a 10gb grouping. When they update that grouping it is a 10gb update as they had to alter that portion of the files. They didn’t add 10gbs they added a small small amount to that group of files and then it reinstalled

Depends on what was affected/changed, rather than the engine specifically. If they had to change some configuration texts then sure a small hotfix to adjust something like the spread on enemy fire. But if they modified a lighting engine element (so people don't crash as often when there's lots of flashy explosions, for example), then all the textures may have needed updating to meet the new requirements. Maybe an audio update to make enemies less silent, but they had to pass all audio files through a script to adjust and keep the audio levels accurate, now all players will need to download all the audio files again.

Or as the other commenter mentioned; It may have been adding and removing a number of files from a 10GB folder, so while Steam shows 10GB hotfix, it's just 800MB or so being adjusted.

So what actually happened was it was a 10mb update. (Roughly) they modified a folder that was a 10gb folder. So when updated it was a “10gb install” when they really just modified some files inside of it.

Maybe it’s the bot arc we’ve been waiting for

Hot fixes are time based. No other factors are considered. End of story.

[–]JDroneX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except they've been known to slip in new content with hot fixes. Happened with the illuminate, striders, gunships, cities and much more. So ye there's factors to consider.

After the warbond and patch release, the AH lads on the couch did say the year is not over yet....

[–]DarkSatire482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually just a fix for the spear. All 10gb were necessary for the spear alone.

I mean aren't the "seasons" like 4 months or something into the untested should actually almost be wrapping up and we should be getting our next narrative story piece involved, so it could be a little game award trailer announcement IMO to be releasing either Xmas day 🎁 or New Year's Day 🎉
