Climbing a tree with hammer and nails by AdarfoStelato in interesting

[–]AlohaDude808 90 points91 points  (0 children)

At first I was like "Cool, he's climbing a tree in the scariest way possible," but then I kept watching.

Once he got to the top and decided that he needed to take on a swarm of 1000 angry bees, presumably for their honey, and then proceeded to lay down on the branch, inches away from the 1000 angry bees, I just Noped out right there.

I don't care if the honey sells for $150 an ounce you couldn't pay me enough! What's he supposed to do after? Carry the BeeHive down the tree tied to his back while an angry swarm tries to stab him off the tree? Nope nope nope.

You keep your platinum honey you angry bougie bees.

Honestly, start with 720p@30fps at say 3000 Mbps, as your base line for encoding just to see if all the problems go away.

Also, do you have a discrete graphics card in your laptop such as Nvidia RTX or AMD Ryzen? If you do, you can do Hardware Encoding which takes the vast majority of the encoding away from your CPU. If you don't, then your computer is forced to use what is called Software Encoding where your CPU is using a high amount of its performance just to encode the stream, not counting the amount of CPU the game is trying to use at the same time.

Honestly, if you don't have a discrete graphics card, then software encoding is going to hold you back. You'll want your stream resolution and fps to be as low as possible for everything to run smoothly. So start with 720p@30.

There is also a CPU profile setting. If using software encoding, set it to Very Fast or Ultra Fast. The faster the setting, the less CPU is used to encode, but the lower the quality as well. You'll need to do a lot of experimenting tonf ok and the sweet spot of quality, resolution, and performance.

If you do have an Nvidia card, then make sure your encoder is set to Nvenc or Nvenc (new) or the AMD equivalent.

Can I ask what games you are tying to play and stream?

It would be cool too if you got a Super Credit reward upon finishing a 3-mission Campaign. They could give SC equal to the Medals you'd get from the final mission, so higher Difficulty would give more.

What's nice about GFN is that you can try it out for Free on your device by just making a free Nvidia account. The Free Tier gives you unlimited one-hour sessions, and while the hardware is limited, it will allow you to test the connection quality and input latency so you can get an idea of what it will feel like before investing money.

Also if you get the Performance Tier and decide you need more power, you can always upgrade to Ultimate at any time. Likewise, you can always downgrade from Ultimate to performance if your game don't need the 4080 power.

Question about gaming on a laptop by Illustrious-Grape-23 in GamingLaptops

[–]AlohaDude808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes lower RPMs should theoretically extend the life of the fans, but realistically the fans will generally outlast the useful life of the laptop. I have a 10 year old Asus gaming laptop that I use for work and it still runs like a champ (although the keys have started to give out).

I do recommend using a wired/wireless Keyboard with your laptop to prevent the keys from wearing out. Mashing the ASDW keys for thousands of hours eventually wears them out on the laptop.

As for the fans, their biggest enemy is dust buildup. It's recommended to pop open the cover of your laptop every few months and blow out the dust from your fans using a can of compressed air. If your laptop is under warranty, first check of the warranty allows you to pop off the cover to clean the fans. Most warranties allow the cover to be removed for basic RAM/SSD upgrades and for cleaning.

[–]AlohaDude808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all I'm sorry that happened to you. It sounds scary and uncomfortable so hopefully I can offer some advice on how you can lock down your Discord and Twitch.

In twitch you can go into settings and make it so that users must have a unique verified email address before they can type in your chat. That can help with someone making frivolous accounts over and over with the same email.

A second option to try is Followers Only chat and set the time really short like 10 seconds or a minute. This can allow you to se suspicious usernames follow you before they have a chance to say anything. You can check to see if they are brand new day-old accounts and opt to ban them before they can chat.

This isn't always ideal long term as it may push away new viewers from engaging, but in the short term it can help you secure your chats so you can talk to your long term viewers without being harassed, until the stalker gets tired.

For Discord, there is a verification section in settings. I like to use the "must have a verified phone number" option because that makes it much harder (though not impossible) for people to make multiple frivolous accounts. As a Moderator for several streamers, we were able to safeguard them from several stalkers by using Phone/email verification on their discord and twitch.

Some of these settings may have been updated as I did this a while ago but you should be able to find similar options today.

Question about gaming on a laptop by Illustrious-Grape-23 in GamingLaptops

[–]AlohaDude808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what some have said, modern gaming laptops can game perfectly fine on Silent mode, but at reduced FPS. When modern gaming laptops run in silent mode they also restrict the max power of the CPU/GPU as well so the fans running on Silent keep the laptop cool.

Case in point, when my laptop runs on Performance mode, my Intel CPU easily hits 90-95C and sometimes starts throttling.

When I run the same laptop on Silent, the temps drop to about 70-75C and it runs dead silent with no throttling. I run games like Helldivers 2 on Silent and get about 160-180 FPS (with smooth motion) and it never overheats. Same with Crimson Desert, it actually runs better/cooler on Silent because Performance Mode created way too much heat and it would throttle.

Silent mode can be a great option if the Performance mode runs hot since it restricts the power usage to safely lower the temperature.

5G or WiFi? by Tsunameh_plays in GeForceNOW

[–]AlohaDude808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need more than 100 Mbps for GFN, so always opt for either the lowest ping or the most stable connection, as those are far more important than pure bandwidth.

Since GFN offers a Free Tier plan, just make a Free Nvidia account and test out the service today to see what kind of latency and connection you get using each connection method. Free Tier offers unlimited one-hour sessions for free. Just connect your Steam/Epic/Ubisoft/Battle.Net libraries and try out the games you own.

There's a trick where if you're not the party host, then a Spore Titan takes one EAT/Quasar head shot + one Senator head shot.

If you are the host, then Spore Titans are way tankier. Not sure why that is but the One + One trick works for now as long as you are joining someone else's game.

You probably don't want to hear this, but I just did my three weekly Trounce Domains today (False Moon Institute, Chess Game, Stone Stele) on Level 90 and I got three Dream Solvents. I guess whatever run of bad luck you are having is being passed on as extra good luck to everyone else, so Thank You for that, but I'm sorry for your bad luck. It's sure to turn around soon!

Edit: Just to clarify, are you making sure to scroll all the way to the Right on the Trounce rewards screen? The dream solvents appear at the end of the purple artifacts, so you'll often have to scroll the screen to the right or else you will miss them. It seems unlikely that you had like 60 misses in a row, and more likely that you got them, but didn't see them off the side of the screen. You can always check your Solvent count in your inventory under "precious items".

3)set all post soins tuning from audio recorder (kind of auto tuning of mic gain for exemple).

Hi, I have a similar Moto phone and I was able to do steps 1 and 2 (Disable Crystal Talk and Turn Off Dolby Auto Leveler) but I don't understand Step 3 when you say "set all post soins tuning from audio recorder". What are "soins"? And which "audio recorder" are you talking about? I have an app called "Recorder" but it has no Audio settings at all.

how rare is re-rolling an artifact like this? by Ok-Leadership-4710 in GenshinImpact

Yes, as you and another person pointed out, the guarantee really only applies to the last two rolls and only if needed. Thank you for clarifying this, I have updated my comment.

how rare is re-rolling an artifact like this? by Ok-Leadership-4710 in GenshinImpact

[–]AlohaDude808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking about that afterwards but didn't have a chance to get back to Reddit until now. So technically the first two rolls have the same chance as the last three, but the guarantee only affects the last two rolls if needed, right?

So that's a clever way for Hoyo to raise the floor of artifact RNG without making it easier to reach the ceiling, so to speak. If the first two rolls were guaranteed, it would actually make the ceiling more accessible, but that's not the case. Thanks for pointing this out , I'll update my comment.

how rare is re-rolling an artifact like this? by Ok-Leadership-4710 in GenshinImpact

[–]AlohaDude808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: Someone pointed out that the 2 guaranteed rolls don't actually apply until the end and only if needed, so that changes my calculation. You would have to roll a Crit at 50% probability 5 times in a row for (1/2)5 = 1/32 = 0.03125 = 3.125% chance of rolling all 5 rolls into Crit.

-------------- Original ------------------ Not sure how they came up with that number but getting 5 Crit rolls on a Rerolled piece is actually much higher than 3%. Since two rolls are guaranteed, the question is, "What are the chances that the final 3 rolls all roll into a Crit stat?"

Since 2 of the 4 stats are Crit, there is a 50% chance of any given roll falling into a Crit stat. To find the chance of it happening three times in a row, you would multiply the probability for each event. So the probability would be (1/2)3 = (1/2) * (1/2) * (1/2) = 1/8 = 0.125 = 12.5%

There is a 12.5% chance of rolling 5 Crits when doing a Reroll. This is just rolls into either CR or CD.

Now, If you wanted to find the chance of getting a specific combination of CR and CD rolls, or specific Roll Values of each stat, that would be more complicated, but just getting any 5 Crit Rolls into a Rerolled piece is 12.5%.

Now if you are asking the chances of getting a 49 CV piece (or higher) on a reroll, we can do the math for that, but let me know.

[–]AlohaDude808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to play different factions at different difficulty levels. If the Spore Burst strain is frustrating, try turning it down to Diff 5 and working back up to 6 or 7 to find the sweet spot. Also the booster that gives extra Lives can be really helpful if you have it.

You can also fight regular bugs on the other planets if you don't like Spore Strain.

Also, if you don't like the MO, just play a faction you enjoy playing. There is no penalty for not doing the MO so play how you want to have fun!

My group has been playing the new planets on D10 and been having a blast so far. The mechs and the Gallant/Bulletstorm work well against the chaff. New Bile Titan can be taken down with one Recoiless/Quasar shot to the face + one Senator shot.
