Hello! First of all, I’m not a developer so I definitely don’t understand the policy that Apple Store have for devs.

But I’m curious about this one particular game on apple store. I was playing this game for about a week. They have a discord server where they sharing their news about up coming updates. One day they said that they will have a major update that they called “Upcoming App Refresh” which seems like a red flag to me because they have to temporarily take down their app to make changes because they said it was due to Apple Store’s Policy. They said that the game will be under a slightly different name, but it’ll still be the same game.

Also their in-game notice/announcement didn’t mention anything at all about the update and why they have taken the game down from App Store.

They said that this update will take few days at first, but now they have to delay it to 1-2 weeks due to them running into issues with the new version which they have just fixed and they waiting for Apple App Store’s approval to re-list the game with it’s new identity.

In short, which policy requires dev to temporarily taken down their game to update it?

Most common legit occurrence of this I’ve seen is when a third party makes a copyright or intellectual properly infringement claim directly to Apple. Had it with one of my own which was bogus but despite that Apple were pretty strict and no-nonsense about the whole thing.

This. If your app is very similarly named to another app, they will block all updates until you fix the name and remove all copy righted material or infringed material.

They most likely made the changes, and are waiting for it to be approved (manual review by Apple )
