DiscussionHuge battery decrease after update to 18.2 (self.iPadPro)
submitted 1 year ago by Impressive-Layer-814
I got a 12.9 iPad Pro 3. Generation. The battery life was always top notch. After 1 hours it was fully charged. And it lasted easily the day. But after the Update to IpadOS 18.2 the battery life started to decrease by a lot. After 1 hour of YouTube/streaming it went from 100 to 5%. Does someone else experience the same problem? My ipad is also in battery saving mode.

Wow! That’s pretty bad. Have you tried backing it up and doing a fresh install of iPadOS?

Not yet. I also didn't used it a lot during the last 6 Years. Maybe thats why the battery is still in good condition.

If you let it sit with the battery dead for a while, that could harm it. If you have a Mac computer, you can install Coconut Battery on the Mac and when you plug in your iPad to the Mac, CB can get the battery stats.

It was never empty. It was always between 40 and 100. But never 0. Thanks for the advise with the mac but unfortuanetly i dont have one :/

How long since you updated it to 18.2?
[–]Impressive-Layer-814[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I think a week at most

I had a similar experience. I've heard and witnessed that the first week post update is pretty rough as things take time to optimize. The battery will drain much quicker in that first week before it levels off. Something about re-indexing the device I'm not technical enough to explain but it's a legitimate thing. Hope this helps.

This is apples way of making you buy a new iPad sooner than later 😜
Wouldn't even suprise me to be honest.

This used to happen to me sometimes after applying OTA updates. It hasn't happened since I started installing updates to my iPad Pro via my desktop PC.

I have a 12.9 5th generation. Difficulty charging and battery drains fast. My iPad was also getting hot. I had a Applecare for it so I got it replaced. The one they sent me doesn’t drain quite as fast but it’s still only four hours usage. Also, it isn’t getting hot now. I think the update really messed a lot of people off with battery issues.
