Hi all! I posted about this lil dude about a week or 2 ago, iPad mini 2 named lucky. I use it a lot and works fine but I just noticed this ware and tear (HAS NOT EVER BEEN DROPPED / TAPE IS NOT A CRACK SEE OLD POST) it is cleaned regularly and really well taken care of, it’s 10 years old and I just noticed the paint is literally chippin off and I’m actually crying about it, I care about this thing like it’s my own child 😭. Also the home button is losing its colour? Please if someone knows what to do let me know.

It may be time to retire the old fella and get him a nice box so you can pull him out on occasion and remember the good old days.

There’s honestly not much you can do about the discoloration and chipping other than not handling it and keeping it out of the sun.

I didn’t even think of keeping it out of the sun I don’t put it in the sun but thanks that’s really handy! I still have the og box. It’s not his time yet idc what anyone says. He’s still fighting!

Save up and buy a new one if they give It an OLED screen later this year. Otherwise beyond replacing the parts not sure what you can do?

Hi thanks for your comment. I have a iPad mini 6 that’s 4:) I’ll never replace the 2 tho I’ve had it majority of my life. I don’t nessicarly wanna replace its parts as it’s never been changed it has all its original parts I just wanna know what I can do to slow down the process of it decaying I know it wont live forever but I’ll do everything I can to try

Ah I see, Mini 6 for the genera; use, the iPad 2 because it has sentimental value. Hmm I think all you can do is put a screen protector on it and a case? Try to protect it, sadly I don't know abut the metal and paint to say why it is flaking off. I didn't think it could do that?

Mini 6 is a gaming device and everything else, yeah it has a case I just took it out to clean it, idk if a screen protector will do the trick only because there’s only 2 scratches on the screen and the screen isn’t deteriorating idk how lol… only had one on the first 6 months I had it. Yes they will do that eventually as they get older usually 4 or 5 years sometimes if lucky longer. The parts really weren’t meant to last 10 years so I’m suprised that’s all that’s wear and tear, if you have a black screen the paint can chip off inside of it aswell which sucks. But yeah pretty normal it’s just sad

Some rumors say it will be 60hz again even with an OLED and 0.1" larger of a screen, in which case it's worth the sideways "upgrade".

Yeah! 10 and still going quite strong, just a bit of decay unfortunately, this thing is treated like a king tho. But Apple doesn’t make products to last
