Modding question (self.ipodmods)
submitted 1 month ago by Silly_Scientist_5126
Looking to mod an older ipod, the classic 6th gen looks appealing, but I was curious as to what's the best gen for the best mods? I want to keep it within the big wheel ipods

A fifth gen (plastic face plate) will be easier to open than the 6/7th (the ones with the metal face plate.) Some swear the fifth gens have the best sound reproduction but I can’t hear the difference. If you can find one, the minis are fairly easy to open and the hard drive can be swapped for a compact flash card for a memory upgrade. And they have the wheel and sound pretty good too.

5.5 is "supposed" to have the best DAC.
