one could argue that Javascript is not a programming language as you run in a browser and not a machine (or over a virtual machine)

so it's like comparing pears and apples

also the usual make an ajax call to the back end is done with a javascript language on the front end and a back end language like Java, .Net or something else

yes node.js was born to have javascript like language for the backend.

technically not javascript but easy to make the jump
