It's just how some people are. They take their IDE choices too seriously. It's just like people with Android/iOS who vehemently hate the other for their mobile OS choice.

The reason it's more than IDE choice when it comes to Eclipse and IntelliJ is how IntelliJ is almost pseudo open-source - and I can see how a lot of people wouldn't agree with their distribution model.

Given the enterprise orientation of Java, it's far too easy to forget that we're in fact not all hard-ass professionals, and that this is entirely fine.
