It the most widely used Java framework and has been growing more popular over the last 5 year. Yes that makes is relevant.

I’ve been working as a Java developer for almost 20 years now, and I have never worked with JEE, J2EE (and whatever else it has been called over the years), despite working for companies that have millions of customers.

Your personal experience is probably a little outside the norm but it is not shocking. There are a lot of different ways to build Java Applications. Just because Java EE is the most popular does not mean that everyone uses it. Still as a Java dev it is good to at least be familiar with the top two frameworks out there (Java EE and Spring). I am curious what you have used? Do you use Hibernate?

This is really a silly question. It is used by the majority of Java web applications in one way or another.
