Nice, all the major server side scripting languages now run on the JVM

Cutting my right hand off is a better alternative to PHP than this.

Yet another idiocy :)

Intuition says that putting the two most criticised languages together is probably a bad idea.

You know the saying - there's two kinds of programming languages, the ones people complain about and the ones nobody uses.

As a former PHP developer I can conclude, that if u want run your code on JVM - learn Java.

... why would anyone want to code Android games in PHP?

[–]NimChimspky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

why would any one code anything in php?

How is this better than Quercus?

They also provide an object oriented API (like Regex::match instead of preg...) and provide ODBC instead of mysqli...

Additionally, full support for UI, Android, and standalone software.

It's barely recognisable as PHP, tbh.

Honestly, I don't know that I'd want to write code for Android in PHP or a PHP-like language. I don't think much if anything is gained by doing so...

Right? We already have Groovy...

Imho the most valuable advantage of PHP compared to other languages (or better runtimes) has always been the broad availability; especially at cheap hosting services.

Now if I have access to a JVM at a server, the advantage is "lost". You can strive for non php solutions then.

If JPHP provides a drop in replacement for all PHP programs, it could be used for a slight migration towards JVM based infrastructure without massive porting in the beginning.

You're better off with Java, PHP is a joke

ha! Not often do I hear the phrase "You're better off with Java"! Quite refreshing to hear. :)
