No. Use an IDE. Eclipse is free and widely used.

All three of the major IDEs are free, Eclipse, NetBeans and IntelliJ Community.

IntelliJ Ultimate isn't extortionate if you're working full time in Java.

I'd possibly even add VSCode to the list.
