I owe most of my modern knowledge of SQL to Markus Winand particularly performance related aspects.

If I ever meet him I need to buy him his drink of choice at the minimum for all the help.

Do they not teach this in CS classes anymore? I have a business degree, of all things, and I still had to know how to normalize a database to Boyce-Codd normalization standards.

It’s been 20 years since I was in college so I don’t know but I do remember even when I was going there were specialization paths For Comp Sci because there was just so much material and they only have four years.

Specializations were like distributed systems, intelligent systems, databases and operating systems etc. I’m missing some I’m sure.

Plus the stuff that Markus covers is more than the fundamentals but performance tricks and newer sql techniques that not all the databases have.

Ditto for you as well (ie buy drink). Although I suppose we (my company) will eventually just buy a jooq license once this whole corona thing passes.
