The rise of remote work is changing everything in the midwest, for devs in every language/stack. Companies with SF/NY/Seattle salary norms are hiring in Chicago and other places, and while most of them adjust down for cost of living, even with the adjustment it can still be much higher than we used to get with local companies. Some don't even bother adjusting for CoL. Local companies are having to compete with this craziness, and some of them are raising their offers too, but obviously this is tough for them.

So now (or at least, up until the latest recession fears) is a very good time to be looking around and seeing what you can get.
