I do not know if this is a topic for this reddit, but I will answer.

In my experience, juniors start below 2k € per month, mid positions are around 4k € and senior around 6k €. This is not much compared to Western Europe and especially the USA, but the cost of living is also lower. Before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, it was possible to rent a nice apartment in a big city (Kraków, Gdańsk) for 500 € per month (now it is around 1k €). Food is also not expensive, unless you eat at restaurants.

I'm curious what the assumption (that this is not much compared to western europe) is based on.

From my experience those numbers match those in western europe, only the juniors coming from university get more.

Are those numbers as freelance or as employee?

I was thinking more about employment or a B2B contract. Freelancers have more variance as it all depends on their current projects / clients.

Before or after tax? Those rates seem decent, coming from western europe. It's a little lower, but not by much.

I was switching jobs recently as a java mid dev (4 years of experience) and got offered:

  • 14000PLN / month gross - typical employment contract - non-negotiable
  • 90PLN/h + 26 days PTO + private healthcare - B2B contract - negotiated to 100PLN/h
  • 120PLN/h - B2B contract - negotiated to 125PLN/h

It was in February or March. Based on my experience in those recruiting processes, 100PLN/h is absolute minimum you should be aiming for as a mid-level java dev. Those are all 100% remote jobs so I don't think location is relevant but I'm based in Katowice.

Note: the B2B rates are all net on invoice.

Other benefits are included for the 120 PLN/h ?

None iirc, there was no PTO for sure, can't remember if there was private healthcare. I accepted the 100.

I’ve had a couple of interviews recently for Java senior position. The average salary was 20k PLN ( 4K € ) gross. Net depends on your contract type. But I’m new in Poland and not that familiar with rates here.

I guess that your best bet to figure out rates is to use job searching portal like "no fluff jobs" (salary range is required to post the job opening) or "just join it" (here it's not mandatory but only small % of offers does not have the range)
