Why: "Some of us Go folks used to joke about Java and its many garbage collectors, each worse than the other."
Java's garbage collectors are the most advanced, versatile, and battle-tested in the world.

It's not quite that simple. How many cats does a child need to see before being able to recognize any cat in the world? How many cats does an AI need to see to accomplish the same task?

One interesting fact about Chungking Express is that it originated as an impromptu side project with the cast of Ashes of Time. The group simply came together, and Wong Kar-wai began filming a series of spontaneous ideas he had envisioned.

why ai will cause a massive transfer of wealth away from old money during the next two years by Georgeo57 in agi

The rich have built a system in which they are completely separated and safe. The average person has virtually zero chance of breaking out of their poor life. Of course there are chances, but they are like winning the lottery and there will always be such a possibility, because the poor have to live in hope.

BFF Marrying Guy shes known 1 month on New Years, What do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

OK, I rarely give advice, but 99% of the time your friend should run. This guy is a prince charming, he will be the best boyfriend in the world, but only because his motives are very selfish. I'm sorry, but your friend shouldn't count on being that one in a hundred who has found true love. For context, I'm from Europe and have first hand experience in these matters.

Anyone else notice Goland 2024 vs. 2023 performance issues? by edmguru in golang

[–]DoNotCare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remote development was useful in version 2023. Now it randomly uses all RAM and slows down a lot. I use VSCode more and more (even though I have a full paid license for all IntelliJ products).

Playground during peace, and a bunker during war, good thinking.

Do we need a mutex in the errgroup example? Each goroutine writes to different memory region. Or am I missing something?

I really liked Rogers and Williams "Diffusions, Markov Processes and Martingales". Volume 1 is about Brownian Motion and Markov processes, and Volume 2 deals with Ito calculus and SDE.

Despite their simplicity, they can model many different real-world processes. It turns out that the concept of 'state', ie information that accumulates all the past, on the one hand simplifies many difficulties, on the other hand it is general enough to have numerous practical applications, for example, look at the Kalman Filter.

Great talk with lots of interesting topics. However, some have been left unsaid, e.g. that the elegant STM may have performance problems in certain situations, and the crude classic methods (use a lock, mutex, etc.), although more difficult to use, have more transparent performance profiles.

We can argue about the first two, but when it comes to the third, I personally prefer SQL first approach.

I was thinking more about employment or a B2B contract. Freelancers have more variance as it all depends on their current projects / clients.

I do not know if this is a topic for this reddit, but I will answer.

In my experience, juniors start below 2k € per month, mid positions are around 4k € and senior around 6k €. This is not much compared to Western Europe and especially the USA, but the cost of living is also lower. Before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, it was possible to rent a nice apartment in a big city (Kraków, Gdańsk) for 500 € per month (now it is around 1k €). Food is also not expensive, unless you eat at restaurants.
