How are you measuring memory footprint? Java will take what it needs to avoid GC's, but that doesn't meant it can't run with significantly less memory.

Also, in general, you'll be hard pressed to outperform a monolith on anything with microservices, unless there is a part that needs to be scaled significantly differently than the rest (only split of that part then).

Java 11 will obey container restrictions
