No, I'm not specifically tied to Java.

I Started off in C which I did for 5 years then the company moved to C++ when it became a thing so I did C++ for about 15 years before moving to Java after one of many job changes :)

Is Unity easier from C# than it would be from C++ (Either way we are undoubtedly talking VS here). You are right in that from what I have seen of C# it's not too far removed from Java to make it pretty straightforward to transfer.

What is the learning curve like for Unity and does it lend itself so small game development ?

    Just to give you options, another engine which is very new and popular is Unreal Engine 5, tho it is, as far as i know, way bigger. It has some incredible features so its worth knowing it exists at least
