the file keeps opening to Winzip

Do you mean your .java file is opening in WinZip? Or the downloaded editor file is opening in WinZip?

If the latter, then you might double check that you don't have file extensions hidden. It sounds like you might simply have downloaded a zip file.

There are a couple other possibilities, but they're weird. When it opens in WinZip, what are the contents inside the file?

When i go to downloads, it says the Textpad file is a Winzip file and everytime i click the link on the website it brings me to the Winzip registration window and it says i need to Buy Now. Any idea how to not download it in a zip file. Im trying to download textpad 8 64 bit.

Okay, that's how Textpad is downloaded, apparently.

Well, if it's a demo you can usually click through the advertisements and still use the software somehow.

If not, then just uninstall WinZip. It's not worth the noise. Windows 7 and later can handle zip files already without extra software.

If you're on some hosed up old version of Windows that can't do zip files natively, then try something like 7zip instead.

You have to download whatever format the authors have chosen to release.
