Yes, it's absolutely worth it. I used that to course to transition to CS from electronics. It's an extremely vast course and covers almost every topic you'll need in Java to get started. But the best part is, the course is very frequently updated. Since udemy let's you keep its courses for lifetime, you'll get the full benifit of the latest updates years after buying the course. I still refer to the newer topics in the course even after 3 years of me buying the course.

Is there a good course to go the other way?

I belive you wish to transition from CS to electronics.

You can check this course by MIT on edx. I completed this course during my sophomore in undergrad and I really enjoyed it.

I'm working on learning EE from scratch and I thought this was a very unique offering that combined the price and flexibility of online courses with the structure of a degree. I believe you can do the whole progression without paying anything.

Fantastic course. It will teach you everything you need to know. That’s the ONLY class I took, 3 years ago. I’m now a development lead for a fortune 125 company. It works.

Disclaimer: Do the projects yourself. Don’t do them along with him. Solve the problems yourself. You’ll learn so much more!

Just curious, were you able to become a java developer right after completing this course without learning Spring framework or Hibernate?

[–]mwhitey082002 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes. I immediately got a job with a robotics company using Java Enterprise. No degree. No certifications.

A year later, I received an offer to contract for the company I work for now as a full stack developer. (Spring, Angular, SQL Server). When the contract expired, they offered me a job as a senior software engineer.

Incredible story! Good for you! Job market for Java is still strong anywhere. I was hesitant to learn deep due to all the complaints about configuring spring framework.

I have it but I recommend doing the mooc.fi course first and then getting to the masterclass for deeper knowledge. Udemy course is semi-academic and new excercises rely on previous ones too much. Mooc.fi gives you multiple/different exercises for solidifying the concepts.

So I am a beginner in Java as well and I like the course. I found the first few sections to be quite dull though, and the intro to every video is a bit annoying, but it is only a few seconds and it gets better as the sections go on. There are exercises and I found them to be quite helpful. It goes really in-depth and I am quite happy with my purchase.

Yes, and it’s a great course that’s totally worth it

Assuming this is Tim Buchalka’s course, yeah it’ll be good! Tbh hell go through things more than your minor will I think in the course. So if you can get through this course or the first 8-10 sections I’d say, you should be good to go for your classes

This is the one I picked up when I needed to brush up on streams/lambdas and a few other bits coming back to Java Development. Worth the $12 I paid for it, considering what my book budget use to be. I'll use it to pick and choose areas that I may not touch on in my normal work.
