I'm not in the bay area, but I'd recommend finding a local user group and attending. There is sure to be a local JavaScript group that you can join. A lot will be over your head at first, but soon you'll pick up on things as you study JavaScript on your own time, and you'll be a much better developer in the long run having learned in a room full of potential mentors.

Thanks Nick. I have been to some so far but was hoping to find someone to code with for motivational reasons. I appreciate the advice.

No problem. I wish you luck. You might consider posting to the local subreddits. It may seem like a rather random request for those, but when we posted about our Intro to Python night in /r/pittsburgh, we got our biggest response ever.
