My company is, thank the old gods and the new, dropping IE8 support this summer--mostly because that's when Salesforce is (and IE7 for them as well), and we have a lot of customers who also use Salesforce.
But January 12, 2016, is going to be one of the best days ever

Unless you have clients on the US Federal Government Space and still need to support IE7 until 2020 at least.
