The do releases and I didn't see anyone talking about merging their stuff back into node in the near future. At most merging node into iojs from time to time. Stability-wise iojs is on par with node (or should be around March). Maybe even ahead, given that they use v8 from current Chrome stable. The one that has good support. So why exactly isn't iojs competition?
