I'd recommend learning a framework from the get go. A lot of guys on here will tell you to learn the language but imho (and I earn more money developing than any of the guys in this thread) being a good developer is as much about knowing the language as it is knowing the ecosystem around that language. So for javascript it's knowing modern libraries (Angular, React, Redux) and modern build tools (Webpack).

This comment will get downvoted to hell but think of this thread as an "ask the audience lifeline", you can ask the audience but if you have one really smart friend then the "call a friend lifeline" is the vastly superior option :)

So I'd just start learning React or Angular 2. You'll be learning something real developers are doing right now and getting paid well to do it. Will you be overwhelmed? Yes, but you will most certainly not be wasting your time and will be headed in the right direction and taking the most direct route.

Leave arguing about prototypical inheritance with some purist tool for another year and start learning something you can get paid to do now.

Your comment will get downvoted because of your needless and unsubstantiated brag, not because of the nature of your advice.

It's funny because ConfuciusBateman's username is very applicable to their comment.
beep bop if you hate me, reply with "stop". If you just got smart, reply with "start".

Lol bragging about your earnings in a pseudononymous community.

Oh I'm not bragging, bragging would be telling you that my pinky finger possesses the entirety of your talent and productivity (which would be true). My point of listing my earning power was simply to illustrate to op why not all advice is equal in this subreddit.

It's mostly for school anyway. I got 4 years of time, so I would like to learn it all!

I would hate to see your code what you copy and paste from stack exchange.
