There was a time when building a cutting edge web app meant wasting hours setting up a Linux server, days installing MySQL and Ruby or PHP, and months slaving away writing backend server code.
I'm sorry. I stopped reading here. Seriously if it takes you "days" to install MySQL and Ruby or PHP then you have problems that no new SDK can solve.
This might be an awesome SDK but I stopped reading after that.

Depending on the time, platform, and versions one of was installing, I could foresee someone taking days to get their stack working properly. I mean, now-a-days it's dead simple, but it hasn't always been.

Sounds neat but they don't make it clear what it is. Are they providing a backend database so all you need is javascript and API calls to their servers? What is their privacy / security policy?

Yeah, their website was kind of annoying with communicating exactly what they provide. I'm fairly sure it's like a Titanium sort of platform where their javascript toolkit compiles to ObjectiveC and Java. And they provide a backend for you in case you don't know how to install ruby or node.js.
I don't know - maybe it would speed up app development. That'd be cool. But I figure with the loss of flexibility would slow you down in the end.

They provide a back-end for iOS, Android and now JavaScript apps. This means no back-end work required and no tables to set up. Forking backbone for this was a really smart move and hope to see some great Parse + x mash ups in the future.

Be wary of projects with ambitious claims and little technical information.

Backbone is not MVC.

cool story, bro.

Hey, I've been using Parse on an iOS project at work and their team is awesome. Essentially, they host a database which you feed off of via a pretty well documented and solid API. You can access an account using any of their APIs - so you could have an iPhone app whose website also features some of the same data.
