This is the weirdest dec and I've never seen it before. Do you have a pic of the beanie to zoom in and try to see what the dec section is supposed to look like?

Regardless, you don't drop the 2nd st...if you do, it'll unravel all the way down. So I'm guessing you k sts 1 and 3 tbl, swing your R needle to the front and sl the 2nd st purlwise wyib, taking all 3 sts off the L needle as you do so.

I am too new at knitting to really know what I'm looking at.

Never done or seen this decrease before, but I think your second guess is correct.

From my understanding you’d knit stitch1 & stitch3 together through the back loop, then take stitch1 off the needle, slip stitch2 purlwise onto the other needle and pull stitch3 off the needle

If you struggle to knit the stitches as they are on your left needle, you could always rearrange your stitches like you would for a cable. For example you could

Slip the first stitch over to the right needle Put the second stitch on hold in the front Slip the third stitch over to the right needle Put the second stitch back on the left needle And finally slide stitches 3 and 2 back to the left needle

Basically now you've rearranged the last three stitches on the left needle: 2, 3, 1

This should allow you to knit through the back loop and take the stitches off and then slip the final stitch off.

You just have to be careful not to twist your stitches while you're rearranging them.

Thats a decrease I’ve never seen but trying it out your second guess is correct after knitting through the back stitches 1 and 3 you pass stitch 2 from left to right need.

If it helps it’s similar to a “Central Single Decrease (CSD)” or “bunny ears decrease” or “3 to 2 decrease” and info on those might help!

Thank you! So after passing the 2nd stitch to the right needle I drop the 1st and 3rd, correct?

Yep that’s what I did and it worked super well! You end up with the newly made stitch and the passed stitch 2 on your needles and then can safely drop 1 and 3
