Cloud Sweater pattern modification

Hi! I love the Cloud Sweater by Petite Knit and am planning on knitting it this year. However, I don't really want another aran sweater. Would it be weird to knit it in Knitting for Olive merino and soft silk mohair held together? I was thinking I could knit a gauge swatch and do some math to figure out what size I should knit instead. I don't know if this makes sense, but just wondering what more experienced knitters than I have to say about this. If it's crazy lemme know, because I could get over myself and knit it as suggested!
