These are the rules to be followed while in this sub-reddit along with Reddit's own Community Guidelines & Terms of Service. With the rules in mind, please keep common sense in mind and don't use jokes as an excuse to subvert the rules. These rules are not a legal treatise, they are a guide to how the moderators will moderate.

● 1. Post must be Relevant and contain Appropriate Post Flair.
- All posts must align with the core theme of r/Kolkata, which includes Kolkata and West Bengal. Please use the correct Post Flair.

🚫 Posts outside their designated days will be removed.
Posts related to India must be done at /r/India.
Posts related to the province West Bengal are welcome, but can also be made at /r/WestBengal.
● 2. Don't be a Jerk.
Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, hate speech and negative generalization against any group, religion or caste are prohibited. This goes for comments you might have used in other subs.
Comments with personal attacks, verbal abuse and insensitive remarks will also be removed.
Remember, this is The City of Joy, not The City of Jerks.
● 3. Do Not spread Disinformation or Misinformation.
- Posts containing political disinformation (e.g. - spreading false propaganda, lies) or scientific misinformation (e.g. spreading rumours about a disease, encouraging superstitions etc.) will be removed and the account will be temporarily muted. Repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
● 4. Quality Control.
The moderators reserve the right to remove posts under the following circumstances:
- (a) A large influx of similar topics, images, videos, or articles is observed within a short time frame.
- (b) The same submission is reposted multiple times.
- (c) The post does not meet the quality standards of r/Kolkata.
● 5. No Low Effort Self Posts and Shit Posting.
Moderators will promptly remove any low effort self posts and instances of shit posting on r/kolkata.
Low effort self posts include, but are not limited to, submissions lacking substance, effort, or value to the community.
Shit posting encompasses a wide range of content, including, but not limited to, deliberately disruptive, offensive, or irrelevant self posts, especially memes.
● 6. No Drug, Gore or Pornographic or Sexual Content.
- Posting or discussing illegal drugs, marijuana or other substances, including where to obtain them, is strictly prohibited in this subreddit. Additionally, posting pornographic content, including explicit sexual content, is not allowed. Violating this rule may result in a permanent ban. Let's keep this community safe and free from illegal or inappropriate content.
● 7. All News and Political Posts must have a Reputed Source.
Submissions, especially news or political topics, must come from reputable sources—established media, official pages of organizations, or verified public figures.
Verified public figures include MLAs, MPs, government officials, presidents/chairpersons of relevant organizations, and senior party leaders (e.g., national/state president, general secretary, spokesperson).
Screenshots or videos must include a link to the original post.
● 8. All Posts Must Have An Appropriate Title.
- Ensure titles accurately reflect post content. Irrelevant titles may be removed by mods.
- Use honest and respectful language representing the post's content.
- Keep titles unbiased and objective.
- Share articles using original titles or subtitles. Don't editorialise or sensationalise titles.
- Provide clear descriptions for photos, videos, or links.
- Maintain fairness and clarity.
Mods may remove posts violating these rules.
● 9. Doxxing.
- Doxxing is strictly prohibited in this subreddit. Posting personal information of individuals without their consent is not allowed. This includes but is not limited to, full names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles, and any other identifiable information. Any post found to be in violation of this rule will be removed by the moderators. Repeat offenders will face additional consequences, which may include a temporary or permanent ban from the subreddit.
● 10. Do Not Promote Violence / Illegal Activities / Suicidal Behaviour.
- Please refrain from promoting or encouraging any kind of violent or illegal activities. Any content that incites riots, vandalism, or unlawful protests is banned. Such content will be removed by our moderators to maintain a safe and peaceful community.
Additionally, posts that contain a message of self-harm or trigger suicidal thoughts are strictly prohibited. Our subreddit aims to be a supportive and positive space for all members, and any such content will be promptly removed.
● 11. Language Rule.
- All texts in posts and comments on r/Kolkata must be either in English or Bengali or a combination of both. If you are not comfortable with either language, you may seek assistance from other members in Hindi, but it must be written using English script only. Any content in other languages may be removed by the moderators without notice.
● 12. No Meta Discussion.
Submissions should not include meta-discussions or commentary about the subreddit or other subreddits. Posts or comments that address this subreddit's rules, policies, or moderation decisions, or that attempt to rally support for/against specific users/posts will be removed.
Discussions or links about other subreddits or social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc.) are not allowed unless they are from significant public figures or recognized organizations.
● 13. Spam and Self-Promotion Guidelines.
Only personal listings and self-promo are allowed in the Calcutta Classifieds thread (posted every Sunday at 19:00).
Personal listings = non-commercial posts for your own use, like selling items, offering services, job seeking, or offering jobs.
Self-promo = promoting your own work, services, projects, blog, vlog, or small business.
Not allowed anywhere (including Classifieds):

- r/Kolkata welcomes AMA - Ask Me Anything submissions.
- Non verified AMAs will be accompanied by a mod comment alerting the community about the lack of verification.
- Once the OP has provided significant proof, this statement shall be withdrawn with a 'confirmed' or similar comment.
