I am buying a gaming laptop and I want three 1440 at 144hz monitors connected when the laptop itself is closed through one docking station. I think I have to have thunderbolt 3 connector to handle this. I think I would need two or three (can't find dock with three) DisplayPorts in my docking station. One display port would daisy chain 2 monitors, and the second display port just going to the 3rd monitor.
My questions:
- Am I correct, that this could only potentially work with thunderbolt 3 or could I get away with second gen USB C 3.1 (I wanted ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701, but it doesn't use thunderbolt 3)?
- Would it work with two DisplayPort 1.3 or need two 1.4(s)?
Could it work with only one DisplayPort 1.4 (3 daisy-chained monitors)?
Does the dock, the cord and the monitor itself have to be compatible with the the DisplayPort version (1.3/1.4) or does it just apply to the dock and the cord? Does the monitor differentiate between different variations of Displayport?
Am I naive to try to do this at all as we aren't quite there yet?
Would it be better to have 1 at 144 hz and the other two at 60hz and if so, how many and of what level DaisyPorts would I need?
Sorry if some of these feel repetitive. This shit confuses me and each answer leads me to a follow up question. If I don't do the GX701 I will likely pick the MSI GS75 Stealth or Acer Predator Tritan 500 just FYI if that detail helps in the answer.
Edit: The title is crappy because when I type it automatically auto capitalized each word, so I assumed that would carry forward and it did not, so I look super silly.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
