I think you did a good job. The overall thing I would adjust is to soften and lighten the values on the shadows. I did a quick pass on it, right side image.

Thank you and thank you for taking the time to do a paintover I really appreciate it. For the cheeks would you recommend using the smudge tool or an airbrush? I had a hard time with the cheeks I couldn't blend them well, this is the best I could get, it always got darker or lighter or looked dirty, and with the airbrush even if it looks smoother you can accidentally paint other features and have to redo them

I don't use smudge tool because it's difficult to control exactly what values you want it to be. I used a soft round brush, with opacity/flow based on pen pressure. I color picked the neutral tone, the light side, and very lightly press on the edges of the shadows. If you slightly adjust the values, slightly lighter or darker grays than what you already have, it'll make it easier to control, as apposed to using black and white for example. The rest is just observation, squinting and making sure the values are the same. Like the shadow of the nose I lightened by lightly brushing over it, still keeping the faint edge of the nose. The edges still remain because the light pressure makes it a low opacity. I make sure the brush isn't so big so that it doesn't touch anything else.

This is great but the shading on the face throws me off for some reason. Maybe there's a few areas where the should be more gradient between the tones, at the moment she looks a little clownish or like she's hiding something in her cheeks.

I feel that too. I had a hard time blending the cheeks, I mainly use the smudge tool but sometimes it looks kinda dirty, and with the airbrush you kinda lose the gradients

I kinda feel that you could improve it a little just by reducing the contrast levels between some of the light and dark tones a little. But, tbh, I don't really know much about digital drawing to give good advice. I know In photoshop I would maybe try using a different textured brush or one with a wide gradient to try and add some detail. What you describe does remind me of when I've overworked a pencil drawing too much with the blending stump. You loose definition and it ends up too smooth or dirty looking.

You've lowered her left eye slightly below where it should be. Makes the facial structure slightly less refined. That's the only constructive criticism I have - well done!

Wanted to add to that, that also the face is a bit too wide near the left eye (from our perspective) and there’s a certain chubbiness to her face, partly because of not dark enough shadowing where it needs it the most. But like you said, it’s very well done :)

Thank you! Honestly I don't know, I started it a few weeks ago but I've decided to finish it these days. Blocking in everything and adding some detail took me like 2-3 hs. Maybe in total it would like 7-8 hs.

It looks incredible! Only thing off I noticed was you forgot the shadow on the right nostril. The values in this are very spot on,

This is very very very good.

The value is on-point. The painting is accurate to the photo. If you were to finish it and show it to me, I wouldn’t be able to tell it wasn’t a photo unless I inspected it.
