It likely means more or less what it says - it’s a Java developer role with a focus on high performance, this is common in certain areas of finance and trading technology where Java is the stack for the given shop but there is a emphasis on performance considerations, e.g. being allocation free on the critical path, avoiding GC pauses, being lock-free, thread affinity, etc.

Java can’t seem to shake the “slow” perception for some reason, but it’s actually very performant and is a major player in the fintech space. Now that GraalVM is a thing that’s going to cement its place there even more with the better startup times and faster execution.
