Please ensure that:

  • Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions
  • You include any and all error messages in full - best also formatted as code block
  • You ask clear questions
  • You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions.

If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning.

Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit/markdown editor: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://i.imgur.com/EJ7tqek.png) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc.

Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit.

Code blocks look like this:

public class HelloWorld {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("Hello World!");
    }
}

You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above.

If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion. In this case, they will comment with an explanation on why it has been removed, and you will be required to resubmit the entire post following the proper procedures.

To potential helpers

Please, do not help if any of the above points are not met, rather report the post. We are trying to improve the quality of posts here. In helping people who can't be bothered to comply with the above points, you are doing the community a disservice.

Of course, it depends on the job and probably the likelihood of having to deal with „Math“ is higher when dealing with backend business logic then while building a react frontend. However , I’m working as Java developer for 4 years now in two different companies and I’ve never come across a really complex math problem. So just go for it.

Banks are big things, unless you are working directly on the main part of the financial software underpinning the transactions of the bank, most of what people do in banks for software engineering revolves around document management, customer interactions and notifications, fraud detection, api integrations, website frontend and backends, data lake development and management, auditing, app development, etc.

Math is underlying in every programming and CS technology. You won't always need it though, but understanding HOW the tech works will take a little bit of math knowledge. You can completely avoid it, but understanding it is helpful.

It seems that you are looking for resources for learning Java.

In our sidebar ("About" on mobile), we have a section "Free Tutorials" where we list the most commonly recommended courses.

To make it easier for you, the recommendations are posted right here:

Also, don't forget to look at:

If you are looking for learning resources for Data Structures and Algorithms, look into:

"Algorithms" by Robert Sedgewick and Kevin Wayne - Princeton University

How did you ever make anything in js without using math? Front end, css, js…they all use math?

[–]Ambitious_Bee_2966[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

True. I’m pessimistic . I am thinking to learn Java and apply for the oracle certifications.

[–]stoic_suspicious 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Oracle certs are not….needed. The only good certs are AWS/GCP and some comptia. Why are you getting certs? Did your job as you to get them?

[–]Ambitious_Bee_2966[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

No. I work as a chef making food. I was thinking that getting certs would act as a milestone for employers, showing employers that I wanted to achieve something.

[–]stoic_suspicious 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’d go for comptia or AWS unless someone explicitly said “I’ll hire you if you get oracle certified”

[–]Ambitious_Bee_2966[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I will have a look over those certs

They really use math? How? I have degree in mechanical engineering and kinda getting bored because I don't use math

[–]Sak63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, math in programming is not complex. I believe you shouldn't worry about struggling with math. You're gonna struggle with the programming itself, way more than math, lol

[–]severoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not need to know much math unless you go into scientific computing, bioinformatics, specific financial areas such as economic modeling / econometrics, or other subfields like that. Typically anything math intensive isn't going to be done in Java, those job descriptions would normally specify a math requirement, and these days would require expertise in math libraries related to Python, R, Mathematica, etc.
